For the second straight year, the Northeast PA Wildcats U -18 volleyball team will operate at Mountain View High School.

The team, which is part of the Amateur Athletic Union is coached by former University of Scranton and Tunkhannock volleyball coach Jud Holdredge, Mountain View varsity coach Jan Price, Eagles’ assistant coach Ed Freeman and Tim Snyder.
It consists of both boys’ and girls’ teams with players from the Lackawanna League, with the boys’ team playing November through March and the girls’ team playing December to May.
The boys’ team had its first practice on Nov. 8, and will continue to practice on Thursday and Sunday evenings.
According to Holdredge, both teams will play AAU teams from the Southern Tier of New York, Allentown, Harrisburg and North Pocono, as well as have a tournament at Mountain View.
Holdredge said that the team is basically letting anyone join up and play regardless of skill level.
“It’s just another outlet for kids to play volleyball,” Holdredge said. “We basically let anyone join up.”
He noted that right now they are accepting any player that is interested, however if the program continues to grow, cuts may need to be made.
Snyder said that the league just got started for the year and is currently setting up a schedule for the coming year.
The boys’ team, that just got started consists of 14 boys, including Lackawanna Trail’s Justin Shaw and Michael Harvey, Susquehanna’s Taylor Cundey and David Vales, Forest City’s Nick Lowery, Andrew Savli and Chad Paulin, Blue Ridge’s Michael Romano, Western Wayne’s Damon Jaggars, Joe Keen, Zak Bauserman, Anthony Kovaleski and CJ Bayly and Wyoming Valley West’s Alex Czopek.
Holdredge, who recently retired from coaching at the University of Scranton and Tunkhannock in 2006 said that he is enjoying working with the AAU group.
“I’m enjoying it because I’m still coaching,” Holdredge said. “Although I never really left it, it’s always in my blood.”
