Voter registration deadline looms

Only a few days remain to register to vote before the Oct. 5 registration deadline. The November municipal election will be held on Nov. 3.
Countywide races of jury commissioner, sheriff and prothonotary appear on the ballot. Incumbents Sheriff Lance Benedict and Prothonotary Susan Eddleston are unopposed on the November ballot as are incumbent jury commissioners Gladys Bennett and Bob Chamberlain.
Only a few municipal races in the county are contested, with the exception of some possible write-in campaigns.
Six candidates appear on the Great Bend Borough ballot for four councilman seats.
Two Democratic incumbents Richard Franks and Patricia Thatcher are seeking reelection.
Republicans Ruth Loucks and Shane Rumage along with Democrats Benjamin Franks and Michael Vangorden are also seeking a spot on council.
Hop Bottom Borough Council has five candidates seeking one of the four available seats.
Three incumbents are running for reelection, John Koshinski and Ronald S. Barankovich, both Republicans, and Susanna Pratt, Democrat.
Janice Webster, Republican, and Democratic candidate Terry Lee Anderson also appear on the ballot.
Lanesboro also has five candidates attempting to fill the four open seats.
Incumbent Republicans Colleen Wilkes and Robert Mireider Sr. appear on the ballot along with fellow GOP candidates Todd M. Glover and David C. Glidden.
Jason M. Fissel is the lone Democratic candidate seeking a Lanesboro council seat.
Two township supervisor races in the county are also contested.
In the Auburn Twp. supervisor’s race, Daniel Strohl is challenging incumbent Republican Berton Hollister Jr.
And in Liberty Twp., Democratic supervisor candidate Clifford Reed is challenging Republican incumbent James Lindsey.
The ballot in Friendsville is wide open with no candidates for borough office appearing on the ballot. The election will be determined by write-in votes on Election Day.
In Ararat Twp., the race for tax collector could be contested. The township tax collector Clifford Tinklepaugh is deceased but the GOP may replace Tinklepaugh on the ballot with another candidate.
Polls open on Election Day at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
