Salute to Veterans

Next Wednesday, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day. It is a great opportunity to salute those who have defended our country.

Programs planned throughout Susquehanna County include:
*Blue Ridge Elementary School, New Milford, is having a Veterans Day assembly at 9:30 a.m. in the auditorium with a breakfast for area veterans at 8:30 a.m. outside the auditorium.
*Elk Lake Elementary School, Dimock, is having a Veterans Day assembly 9-9:45 a.m., grades K-3, and 10-10:45 a.m. for grades 4-6 with patriotic music and local veterans sharing stories. Moment of silence across district at 11 a.m.
*Lathrop Street Elementary School, Montrose, is having a Veterans Day assembly at 10 a.m.
*American Legion Post 524, Dundaff St., Forest City, will have a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. A free luncheon will be served by the ladies auxiliary. The public is invited.
*Streider-Tesky American Legion Post #86 is having a Veterans Day Memorial service at 11 a.m. at the veterans’ monument in Susquehanna.
*Montrose Area High School is having a Veterans Day assembly at 1:30 p.m.
* Mountain View Elementary School will hold a Veterans Day program at 8:45 a.m. Program will feature Amy Getz, a teacher in the high school giving a slide show about her tour of duty in Iraq last year. The student body will sing each military branch theme song as a tribute to our veterans.
* A Salute to Veterans assembly at 9:45 a.m. at Lackawanna Trail High School will feature U.S. Rep. Chris Carney, D-Dimock.
