U.S. Rep. Chris Carney. D-Dimock, has secured $300,000 for the new Susquehanna County Library, funding that will go toward plans to construct a new 20,000 sq. ft. public library on property donated by the Montrose Area School District.

“This project will replace outmoded and inadequate infrastructure, modernize a crucial educational institution, and in the process provide much-needed employment,” Carney said. “Securing investments in our community that spur job creation during this difficult economic climate is a top priority for me.”
The existing 7,800 sq ft structure located at 2 Monument Square, Montrose will become the home of the Susquehanna County Historical Society.
The new facility will be a community center with space for meetings and group activities concurrent with quiet reading or study. There will be room for more computer terminals, a necessity in today’s world, and there will be adequate parking.
Funding was approved through the Consolidated Appropriations Bill that passed this month and will be provided through the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
