Montrose teacher charged in student sex case

A Montrose Area High School Latin teacher is facing charges for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old ninth grade female student in 2007.
Jeffrey David Norris, 28, Montrose, was charged by Trooper John Oliver and Special Agent Dennis T. Murray, of the state Attorney General’s office, with three felony counts of statutory sexual assault, three counts indecent assault, three counts of corruption of minors and three felony counts of interception, disclosure or use of wire, electronic or oral communication.
According to the police affidavit, the attorney general’s office utilized the Statewide Investigating Grand Jury which made a presentment of recommended charges on June 10, accepted by order of the Supervising Judge, Hon. Ricardo C. Jackson.
Norris is accused of having sex with the student on three occasions March through June 2007, after he was assigned as one of her ninth grade teachers at Montrose High School.
He also is accused of providing the teen with alcohol, marijuana and cocaine during that same timeframe.
Norris also faces charges for recording conversations with school officials and employees about his employment as a teacher and coach without their consent or knowledge.
He was arraigned in District Court. Bail was set at $50,000 unsecured. A preliminary hearing date has not yet been set.
Montrose Superintendent Michael Ognosky said Norris was suspended from his teaching position in February. and put on administrative unpaid leave. According to Ognosky, he has not been teaching since the district was informed by state police that Norris was the subject of an ongoing investigation. That will remain the case until the case is resolved.
