Montrose police nab shopping cart bandits

A Hallstead couple who allegedly stole a cart load of goods from the Montrose Dollar General in August was charged for the crime by police.

Cheryl McGrantham, 42, and David Nugent, 28, Hallstead, were charged by Ptlm. Nathaniel Williams for their roles in allegedly taking over $200 worth of goods from the Montrose business on August 22.
A store security tape was used to help police identify the two.
According to the affidavit, McGrantham distracted the casher while Nugent took the goods to McGrantham’s vehicle.
McGrantham was charged with criminal conspiracy – retail theft and receiving stolen property.
Nugent was charged with retail theft, receiving stolen property and theft by unlawful taking.
Preliminary hearings for both are scheduled for Oct. 26.
