Natural gas remained the leading topic at the county economic development board meeting on Thursday.

Central Bradford Progress Authority executive director Tony Ventello said there has been a lot of interest by several companies in establishing a water treatment facility in the area. However, according to Ventello, none of the interested entities have “pulled the trigger” on projects yet.
Ventello also discussed the formation of the Chesapeake Energy Community Advisory Panel. Chesapeake is forming a panel of community leaders to deal with all aspects of the natural gas industry to help the company better understand the concerns of the community.
Several gas industry related companies have also expressed an interest in utilizing the Bendix site in South Montrose and the Hallstead Foundry site, according to Ventello.
Newly appointed board member Susan Dean was also introduced at the meeting.
Dean is the CEO of Donald Dean & Sons, Montrose – a third generation manufacturer of cabinet doors.
Ventello updated the board members on the status of the energy study currently underway in the county and should be completed within the next few months.
The purpose of the study is to identify feasible methods to generate power locally. The consultants are concentrating on utilizing natural gas for power generation but also looking at other possible sources.
With electric rate caps coming off in 2010, business interest in cogeneration is increasing, said Ventello.
