Although there were few ballot contested races, several write-in campaigns were mounted against ballot candidates throughout Susquehanna County.
Results are still preliminary. The returns board will meet later this week to finalize the vote counts.
In a Liberty Twp. ballot face off, incumbent Republican supervisor James Lindsey took 122 votes, besting a Democratic challenge from Clifford Reed who garnered 54 votes.
In another ballot race, incumbent Republican Auburn supervisor Berton Hollister Jr. received 175 votes to Democratic challenger Daniel Strohl’s 82 votes.
Lanesboro and Great Bend Borough counsel races results came in with tie votes.
In Lanesboro, Jason Fissel, Democrat, and Robert Mireider Sr., Republican, each received 47 votes.
Todd Glover and David Glidden garnered 67 votes each and Colleen Wilkes received 57 votes.
In Great Bend borough’s election, voters were able to choose four from the six on the ballot.
Democrat Patricia Thatcher was top vote getter with 92, followed by Republican Shane Rumage with 77.
Ruth Loucks, Republican, received 72 votes.
Democratic candidates Richard Franks and Mike Vangorden each earned 64 votes.
Benjamin Franks, Democrat, received 39 votes.
However, Rumage was also elected to a Blue Ridge school director seat. He will have to choose which office he will accept.
Ties will be broken through a draw.
The Hop Bottom council four-year term race saw Republicans John Koshinski and Ronald Barankovich as leading vote getters with 63 and 62 votes earned respectively.
Democrat Susanna Pratt earned 53 votes and Republican Janice Webster garnered 50.
Terry Lee Anderson, Democrat, received 44 votes.
Tim Hortman was unopposed for the two-year Hop Bottom council seat and gathered 72 votes.
In the Ararat Twp. tax collector race, Richard Cottrell earned 42 votes, besting the highest write-in candidate by three.
Silver Lake ballot candidate Francis Fruehan, Republican, carried a decisive victory over write-in challenger Larry Harvilchuck.
Fruehan received 498 votes. Only 100 write-in votes were cast in the township supervisor race.
Montrose Mayor John Wilson bested write-in challenger Jamie Smith.
Wilson earned a combined Ward 1 and Ward 2 total of 189 votes.
Write-in votes amounted to 136 with Smith gathering 105 of those.
In other races, ballot candidates fell to write-in challengers.
In the Forest Lake supervisor race, Republican ballot candidate Francis Pinkowski Jr. earned just 67 votes to write-in challengers Bob Collumb who received 85.
New Milford township tax collector ballot candidate Jennifer Schmidt was also upset by a write-in challenge from Amy Hine.
In a close race, Hine earned 160 votes to Schmidt’s 156.
Incumbent county sheriff, Republican Lance Benedict was unopposed on the ballot and received 6,461 votes.
Incumbent Republican prothonotray Susan Eddleston garnered 5,806 votes.
Incumbent jury commissioners Gladys Bennett and Robert Chamberlain were each re-elected to serve another term. Bennett earned 4,445 votes and Chamberlain garnered 2,352.
Overall, 29.66 percent of registered county voters turned out for the Nov. 3 election. A total of 7,459 votes were cast out of the 25,146 Susquehanna County registered county voters.
