Eagle soars in Susquehanna

Donald Cottrell received his Eagle Scout award Sunday afternoon, fittingly in the Gibson Grange Hall in Gelatt that was the site of his service project.
The son of Richard and Sue Cottrell of Thompson with the assistance of family, friends and members of Troop 81, Susquehanna, led the clean up of the Grange meeting room that had been damaged by a fire.
A senior at Susquehanna Community High School, Cottrell plans to continue his education at Mansfield University.
Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 89 Francis O'Connor was the Master of Ceremonies assisted by Troop 81 Assistant Scoutmaster Chris Herbert.
The new Eagle Scout's father, Richard, is Scoutmaster for Troop 81.
Delahanna District Executive Bill Albecht declared the Court of Honor open and with Troop 81 scouts traced the trail to the rank of Eagle Scout, including Trevor Passetti (Scout); Tyler Seidel (Tenderfoot); Brandon Belvedere (2nd class); Ben Gall (1st class); George Wilks (Star); and Andrew Burdick (Life).
As a member of the Eagle Board of Review, Sharon Glover certified Cottrell’s advancement to Eagle.
Eagle Scout Patrick Trowbridge administered the Eagle Charge. "When you pledge yourself on your sacred honor, you will be sealing your eternal loyalty to the code of the Eagle Scout," Trowbridge said. All Eagle Scouts present joined with Trowbridge as he administered the Eagle Scout Promise.
Pa. Rep. Sandra Major, R-111th Dist., attended and presented a citation along with a message from Sen. Lisa Baker, R-20th Dist. Other citations included those from the county commissioners. District Attorney Jason Legg, U.S. Rep. Chris Carney; Gov. Edward Rendell, President Barack Obama and past presidents George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter, as well as the National Boy Scout President were read.
Other family members in attendance his grandparents, Richard and Evelyn Cottrell and Marie Swartz as well as his great-grandmother, Mary Gorton.
