Adult School hosts Expo

The fall term of the Montrose Area Adult School concludes this week with a Sunday afternoon, Nov. 1, exposition of student work at St. Paul’s Church in Montrose.
Beginning at 3 p.m., family members, community and friends are invited to view student work on exhibit, meet instructors, hear plans for the spring term and view several performances. Refreshments will be served and admission to the event is free.
The Adult School continues to grow in both participation and course offerings. Students travel from as far away as Scranton and Owego, Union Dale and Thompson to take course in the Montrose community in both the fall and spring terms. Instructors include professors from Cornell and Binghamton, as well as friends and neighbors from the entire county.
Pete Comley, from the Clodhopper Farm in Friendsville, taught a course in raising chickens; Charlie Ahern, from Friendsville, teaches basketry; Larry Kelly, of Montrose, teaches guitar; Cindy Reynolds, of Friendsville, teaches watercolor painting; and Ed Dewitt, of Montrose, teaches beginning golf; Harodl Smallacombe teaches tennis.
George Schreck, from Franklin Forks, teaches photography at Salt Springs State Park; Philippa Follert teaches piemaking; and Kathy Taylor teaches a participating course in canning.
Montrose Police Chief Dale Smith taught a course in Safeguarding Your Property; John Reynolds and Ann Vitale, both published authors, taught a course on publishing; Noel Short taught a course on paranormal investigating; and a cooking course was taught at Summerhouse Grill.
Retired professor and current Dimock resident Jim Nagle taught a course on genetics. Nancy Wottrich, nature educator from Salt Springs, leads hikes and this fall, a hawk watching hike a Bear Rocks.
The Expo is an opportunity to learn more about the Adult School, meet both students and instructors and find out more about the spring term that begins March 23, 2010.
Expo attendees can reserve a slot for a spring class with a full payment for the course along with the registration form. Many courses have space limitations and are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
